This is good sized, crown shafted pinnate palm from New Caledonia. It comes from Mt.
Koghi in the central area of the island. Mature trees obtain a height eventually of 40 feet or more. The leaves tend to be upright in the crown and the crown shaft has a white color. It is more difficult to find than other species of Burretiokentia. An interesting thing about this species is that younger plants have a triangular shape in the crown shaft area below the leaves. The blossoms are also quite furry and unusual appearing. It appears to be cold tolerant into the mid to upper twenties F. and tolerates full or part coastal sun. Shown here is a 15g plant as well as mature specimens from the wild. Our 15 gallon plants are really a 24 inch box size. They are too tall for mail order but we should have smaller, shippable sizes available. The 8th & 9th photos are from habitat from a trip that my son, Jesse, and I took in the year 2000.
