This is a single trunk species from Mexico that is most known for having grouped leaflets along the rachis. It has a thin trunk about an inch in diameter and a somewhat open crown. The leaflets are attached to the rachis at irregular angles so that the leaflets look as if they were a group of bow ties attached to the leaf stem. Cold hardiness is into the mid-twenties F. It likes filtered light or perhaps a little bit of sun. Some like to plant this species as a grouping or colony of multiple plants. Mature height is from ten to fifteen feet. I’ve shown two close-ups of the leaflets as this is the most charming characteristic of this species. This size is easy to mail order and may be of interest to folks in cooler but not super cold areas. Of note, we also have “multiples” of this species (several together) in 5 gallon pots for the same price.
