When one considers the species Laccospadix australasica, he has to realize that there are different forms depending on native habitat/localities. There are also single trunk and suckering forms. The one for sale here is the single trunk mountain form. I feel it’s the best subspecies one can purchase. It doesn’t throw the new red leaf although occasionally you see a bit of bronze in the new leaf. This variety of the L. australasica is fairly easy to grow in our area. The seeds for these plants today came from a local flowering tree here in Encinitas. This variety has thinner leaves that are dull green in color, trunks about four to five inches thick and reaches a height of typically under 15 feet. I’d recommend morning sun, strong filtered light or perhaps several hours of daily sun. Cold tolerance is into the mid-twenties F.
