This is a great palm for Southern CA and other areas that may see winter colds into the mid-twenties F. It is native to southwestern Mexico at high elevations to 4500 feet. It tolerates bright filtered light or, along the coast, some degree of sun. It is single trunked with a modified crown shaft and somewhat short green leaves. It resembles a Chamaedorea elegans on steroids. Trunks are about an inch thick and ringed. In filtered light trunks remain green. Mature height is about ten feet. This is an extremely difficult species to find. We happen to have some plants grown by Don Hodel. The last two photos are by Australian friend Colin Wilson.
