This is a hybrid cycad that was produced by using two blue South African cycads. Pollen from E. princeps was used to pollinate a female cone of E. longifolius. Both of these two parents are blue in sun and when mature – especially the E. princeps. As many of you know, Encephalartos princeps is one of the most sought after of the blue species. These juvenile plants have about three leaves and a caudex size of a bit under one inch. They will want full sun along the coast and should be cold hardy down into the very low 20’s F. These can be mail ordered. They can remain in these 5g pots for several years. As this is an unusual cross, I can only show you nursery photos of pure longifolius and princeps below. I have no garden specimens of this hybrid available for pictures.
