PHILODENDRON SELLOUM AKA PHILODEDRON BIPINNATIFIDUM

Throughout my career, I’ve always known this plant as Philodendron selloum. The same is true for most nurserymen. But, when researching it, I’ve found lots of other names and even genera used to taxonomically identify this species. So, keeping it simple, I’ll not go there but rather say that this is a large leaf Philodendron that can climb up a tree trunk or stand alone all by itself. It is native to South America. It can grow in coastal sun or in the shade. It’s got a trunk that is usually six inches thick or less and puts out thick hanging roots that assist in grabbing anything to support the crown. Leaves are green, heavily divided and can be four feet long and three feet wide. Leaves are not as large as the much more rare Philodendron evansii. Selloum is easy to grow.
