Neorogelia are one of our favorite Bromeliads to offer for sale. This is because they are so colorful and can easily be grown on the patio, in the garden or even as a houseplant. There are two key things to remember about growing Neorogelia. First, almost all prefer a bit of sun or strong filtered light. They are not usually for full sun although a few can tolerate this. The second thing is that their cups have to be filled with water. Bromeliad roots that hold the plant in place absorbe nothing – they are only for stability. So, if you just water the pot’s soil, they will die. They have to have water in their cups. Neorogelia tend to blossom with small blue flowers within the cup. If you want a large emergent blossom, you usually have to pick another genus. Once the primary plant blossoms, they pup out pups at the base so you have a clump of them in a few years. We’re putting out 6 inch size (many to choose from) on sale. Many are hybrids. These can be mail ordered.
