This semi-dwarf pinnate palm gets to a height of ten to twelve feet domestically and is single trunk and has no crown shaft. It is native to montane forests in Brazil and is near extinct in the wild. It is rarely seen offered for sale. The more frequently seen species of this genus is Lytocaryum weddellianum, also from Brazil rainforests. The latter is a much smaller plant than L. hoenii and rarely gets to ten feet. Hoenii has a more robust appearance, a bit thicker trunk and wider leaflets. Here I’m showing 5g plants of Lytocaryum hoenii that we’re putting on special. We rarely, if ever, can offer this species. Lytocaryum is a filtered light genus with a cold tolerance in the mid-twenties F. I’ve found from experience that Lytocaryum seem to thrive on neglect. Too much water, fertilizer or attention seems to not be right for them. Just plant one, don’t pay attention to it other than average watering, and they seem to do fine. By the way, shortly we should have 5 gallon sized Lytocaryum weddellianum available.
