Archontophoenix teracarpa is a fictitious name given to an unknown species/type of King Palm that I have in my garden and no one can identify. I’ve been collecting seeds from it for quite a few years and offering it for sale. Everyone who gets one agrees – “It’s the best King Palm ever!” It got the name from the Latin “Large body”, which it has. After trying to identify the species over many years and with no success, we coined the name “Archontophoenix teracarpa”. The closest species to it would be A. maxima but it’s not the same. So, what are the differences that makes teracarpa more ideal?
It is faster growing
It gets taller than the regular King Palm
It tolerates full sun better
It doesn’t brown tip in full sun along the coast
It has a bluish crown shaft
It has a super thick trunk
