I have not shown this species that often because it’s rarely available and very difficult to find. It is native to Mexico at high elevations near Chiapas. It is a single trunk, understory palm that has sort of a thick trunk up to 1.5 or 2 inches. The flowers are reminiscent of Chamaedorea radicalis as they shoot high into the foliage. Its overall appearance is also similar to the trunking radicalis but with bigger leaves, wider leaflets and a thicker trunk. It gets up to about 10 to 15 feet.
It grows in filtered light and seems to be cold hardy into the mid-twenties at least. We have a limited number of 5 gallons available (first five photos). Some pots have two plants per pot – so there’s a chance to set some seeds. These can be mail ordered. I’m also putting them on special. Please appreciate that this is a super rare species and is seldom offered for sale. Note that the photos below show several larger plants from the nursery. This size can be easily shipped for mail order.
