This is a single trunk species from Mexico that is most known for having grouped leaflets along the rachis. It has a thin trunk about an inch in diameter and a somewhat open crown. The leaflets are attached to the rachis at irregular angles so that the leaflets look as if they were a group of bow ties attached to the leaf stem. Cold hardiness is into the mid-twenties F. It likes filtered light or perhaps a little bit of sun. Some like to plant this species as a grouping or colony of multiple plants. Mature height is from ten to fifteen feet. I’ve shown two close-ups of the leaflets as this is the most charming characteristic of this species. The plants on sale just arrived and are very tall 5 gallon singles – most overhead with their tall leaves. These are really too tall for mail order but would be easy to fit into most cars if you visit.
