This variety of Elephant Ear Plant is sought after because of the interesting black splotches on its green leaves. See close up photos below. Individual leaves can get 12 to 18 inches in size. They do sucker and can produce a mature plant that is 4 to 5 feet tall and 4 feet wide. This species tolerates coastal full or part sun. It likes good draining soil and to be kept slightly moist during the hot season. Back off on watering when it’s cold. If you live in a very cold area, you can dig up the tubers, store them and replant in the spring. Cold tolerance is about a freeze or a bit below. It can be used as a specimen or along the edge of a garden. It also can be grown next to a pond or stream. It would get too large for usage in a terrarium. We’re putting our one gallons on sale. They can be mail ordered. Also, many customers are growing this as a houseplant.
