This species of a green cycad can be grown in the garden or as an interior palm. Although you can’t tell from the photos here, this cycad species can get quite tall. I’ve seen photos from habitat with what appears to be over 20 feet of trunk. But, such heights would require several centuries to occur. Dioon spinulosum is native to tropical areas in Mexico where it grows in limestone forests. Trunks don’t get overly thick, typically 12 to 14 inches thick – but domestically often thinner. Leaves are green and mildly armed. Leaf length is about six feet. My preference is to grow this species in filtered light. Cold tolerance is into the mid twenties F. At the nursery we usually have a good selection of this species from small to large. We’re putting a nice and huge, old one gallon on sale.. Age is about 8 years. Average caudex size on these one gallon is about 4 inches. They are shown in the first two rows of photos with larger garden plants in the third row. Easy and affordable to ship.
This size can be easily shipped via UPS mail order. |
