Our major focus with the Howea forsteriana has been historically dealing with their usage in landscape. Within the coastal areas, these plants tolerate full sun. Far inland they do better with part day sun. Cold tolerance is about 25 degrees F. Mature height after about 40 years is 20 to 30 feet. Trunks are fairly narrow for their height. Growth is often felt to be slow but, in the ground, one can get production of trunk faster than you’d think. Leaves are about 8 feet long and sport as dark green leaflet color. The 24 inch boxed plants on special have four to five feet of trunk – measured from the ground to the new leaf spear. All have a single plant per box.
