This is not what I’d call a super rare species of palm, but for some reason they are near impossible to find. We have a limited number of nice various sizes for sale. Brahea edulis is a slow growing, shorter fan palm that is native to an island just off the coast of Mexico south of San Diego, CA. It is found natively nowhere else. The trunk is medium sized and mature trees obtain a maximum height of under fifteen feet. The colony of plants shown here are located near Mission Bay Park in San Diego. I’d estimate they are about forty years old. This species likes full sun, can tolerate desert conditions and is cold hardy to the mid-teens F. They are also reasonably drought tolerant. Like other Brahea, large specimens are very difficult to successfully transplant. On special are one gallon plants we’ve grown from local seed.
Easy to mail order. We may have other sizes available. |
