Shown below is our band size plants of the desirable blue South African cycad, Encephalartos trispinosus. Most people find it’s very similar to E. horridus. It is a small to medium sized mature blue cycad with leaflets that have prominent lobes. But, be aware that this species is quite variable and has many forms. There is even a spineless leaflet form. It is anticipated that these plants, like their parents, with have prominently prickly and lobed leaflets. These will want full sun along the coast and are cold hardy to about 22 degrees F. These 5 gallon plants can be shipped. Caudex size on these is about 2 inches. After acclimation, one can plant them directly into the ground in spring to summer, or wait another year when they are larger.
