This fairly recently described species is native to the forests in Chiapas, Mexico where it lives under overhead canopy. It is a green cycad that forms a small trunk but has fairly long – four to six feet or more green erect leaves with inch wide leaflets. Leaves and fairly flat in cross-section but leaflets droop with rain tips. This specie wants protect understory conditions probably in a frost free environment. It is also very rare.
