This cycad is native to the Ituri Forest in the Congo. It is a threatened species but apparently not being harvested from the wild. The most notable thing about this species are the tall, upright and super long leaves. They are green in color and go straight up! Caudexes can get to over fifteen feet tall with these huge leaves overhead. It is a sun or part sun species. There are quite a few enthusiasts who have grown this species successfully in our area. It is a very rare cycad and seldom found for sale. It wants sun or part sun (inland) and is cold hardy to about the mid-twenties F. These plants on sale are in citrus pots. Caudex sizes are 3 to 4 inches, about 8 years. I’m also showing a monster plant we had years ago at the Nursery. Of note, it was impossible to obtain this species 20 years ago. Now there are a few around for sale. extremely rare to find one.
