PURPLE UNDERSIDE TO LEAVES
This is a species of Elephant Ear Alocasia. Some feel it comes from the island of New Guinea but others feel that it is a hybrid of unknown origin. The reason I mention it is because it is known to be quite cold hardy, perhaps even adaptable to growing zone 7B. It is a small plant, typically under 3 feet. The dorsal side of the leaves are green while the underside is purple-black. It prefers to stay dry in the winter and likes filtered light. It is a nice companion plant for any garden. Shown below are 7 gallon plants that are on Special.
Remember to mention this Blog Only Special when you purchase. Mail order possible. The garden photo is c/o johnjearrard.co.uk website. |
