BLUE-GREEN LEAVES, MEDIUM SIZE
NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND
This exciting hybrid of two cold hardy, sun loving palms is a cross between pollen from Jubaea chilensis (Chilean Wine Palm) being transfered to the receptive flowers of Butia capitata (the Pindo or Jelly Palm). Before we have offered the opposite hybrid with the Jubaea being the seed bearer. If you inspect the photos below, you’ll find this this cross definitely more closely resembles the Pindo Palm. The mature plant (8th photo below) c/o Palmpedia by an unknown author shows that sometimes these hybrids can show a blue leaf color as some Butias have a more blue leaf. Leaves should be recurved downward. I do see blue color on the dorsal leaf stems on our 5 gallon plants but leaves could end up being a blue-green color. Cold hardiness is definitely into the upper teens or a bit lower. It’ll want full sun. Anticipate a mature height of 20 to 25 feet. This size can be mail ordered. I only have a handful available and they’ll sell out quickly. They are good sized for a 5 gallon pot but I only have one or two available to sell
