CALOCASIA GIGANTEA THAILAND GIANT HUGE ELEPHANT EAR TYPE PLANT

LARGE GREEN LEAVES, SUCKERING

Calocasia are types of Elephant Ear plants that are native to areas from India through Asia. The species on special today is known for it’s huge leaves which can be six feet long and four feet wide. This variety is known to have the largest leaves of this species. Leaves are green and heart shaped. Mature height can be ten feet. They tolerate sun or part sun. Plants are known to be grown in zone 7b and can take a freeze if the soil doesn’t freeze. In freezing areas new leaves will re-emerge in the spring. In frost free areas it is a perennial plant. The last photo c/o the Missouri Botanical Garden shows a larger plant. The plants on special shown below are in one gallon pots. These photos were taken recently. These plants have seen recent weather down to a freeze. They are fairly quick growing. We’re putting 3& 5 gallon on special. Now is a good time to plant these in the garden.
