LARGE BIPINNATE SINGLE TRUNK PALM
GORGEOUS BUT NEEDS ROOM TO GROW
This beautiful large palm from northern Thailand has been given a lot of common names. Its leaves are green with chopped leaflets. Leaf length is about 14 feet with a width of 10 to 12 feet or more. It is the most sought-out species of Fishtail Palm. It has an extremely thick fat trunk that can get up to three feet wide at the base with a trunk height in Southern California that is hardly ever over 35 feet. It tolerates full sun and is cold hardy into the low 20’s F. It is as monocarpic species (blossoms and then dies) and one could expect a life expectancy of 12 to 14 years. It will produce shade underneath. It is quick growing but does not put on vertical height as fast as Caryota urens. If your plant doesn’t look good, it’s probably from your lack of giving it adequate water (if there’s no cold burn). Presently we are putting our 25 gallon size on sale. Be aware, we also have band sized seedlings available.
