We at the nursery are very proud that we offer a good selection of these interesting New World fan palms – Coccothrinax. This species is native to the Caribbean region and gets to heights of about 30 feet in many decades. Leaf color is green to silver-green and trunks are typically six inches thick or a bit more. This species loves full hot sun and is cold tolerant into the mid-twenties F. Many are growing it with good success. In pots, all Coccothrinax are painfully slow. It’s taken us about four years to produce the band sized seedlings you see here. Yes, from seed, Coccothrinax are very slow growing. We do have other sizes for sale and multiple other species of this genus. In the ground this genus are much faster.
