ABOUT FIVE FEET TALL, UPRIGHT BLOSSOMS
HARD TO FIND NOWADAYS
This herbaceous perennial is from southern Europe and northern Africa. It is fairly easy to grow and prefers sun. It has big, wavy green leaves. It is somewhat reminiscent of the Snowflake Aralia which I’ve shown at this Blog. Mature plant height is about three to four feet. The blossoms are spectacular as shown – up to 30 inches long. They go vertically above the foliage and are lavender colored. Plants in shade will not blossom. A hard freeze can damage the leaves but plants usually come out of it. This is a suckering plant and nowadays difficult to find. The garden photo is c/o weedbusters website NZ.
