THE ARECA OR GOLDEN CANE PALM
A GREAT “NEIGHBOR BLOCKING” PALM SPECIES
This suckering medium sized palm is native to various countries including Madagascar, Comoros Islands and Pemba Islands. It has a shorter stature if you grow it in our area. Maximal height is usually about 13 to 15 feet, rarely taller. Trunks are about 2 to 3 inches thick and leaves are green. There is a yellow color to the leaf bases and leaf stems. It wants coastal sun or strong filtered light. Cold hardiness is about 24 degrees F. In a series, it creates a great botanical barrier that’s difficult to see through.
