LOTS OF PEOPLE LOVE THIS PLANT
WE DON’T, BUT WE STILL SUPPLY THEM
The Giant Bird of Paradise is a large clumping, banana-like tree that can get to a height of 25 feet, suckers and has green six foot leaves and a tough woody trunk. It tends to sucker aggressively and spreads rapidly. As you may realize, it requires a lot of maintenance. Unkempt, this plant looks shabby with old leaves and debris. And, it is super invasive. It can lift foundations of houses or tilt a deck. Yet, people like it and seek this plant out. I think this is because it’s readily available and people like “banana leaves”. We try to talk them out of it. It is native to Eastern Africa and a few surrounding islands. I’m showing you a nice looking garden specimen below but guarantee you if I showed you many others, you’d be overwhelmed and decide on something else.
Regardless, many people insist on this species so we do offer them. Showing 15 gallon plants below.
