STEP OFFS AT THE GROWTH RINGS
Archontophoenix Beatricae has always been a bit of a problem for taxonomists – whether it’s truly a species or a variety. Some feel it’s a variety of A. alexandrae. I won’t get into that argument here. But, the plants shown below came from seed from a A. beatricae. Note the very swollen trunk base. It flairs out. It is also known to have notches or “step offs” at the growth rings. I don’t have a good photo close up of the latter. These plants need to be repotted or go into the ground. They can take coastal sun. Cold hardiness is about 25 degrees F. The 5g size singles are on sale but we may have a few multiples we’d offer at the same price.
