FULL HOT SUN – EXTREMELY COLD HARDY
This interesting palm is a suckering blue fan palm is native to Morocco. It’s actually quite amazing that it took a long time for taxonomists to realize that it was a species and had it’s own unique characteristics. It’s definitely a deep blue color but also it never gets as large as Chamaereops humilus. The problem was that there were also native short clones of the later. Chamaerops cerifera is one of the most cold hardy species for those of you in super cold areas. I’ve had reports of it going down to 13 degrees F. Mature height is about six feet or so. Color is blue in hot sun. This species does sucker. Most importantly, with age and full sun, they will have blue leaves (see garden photos). The plants on special here are nicely sized and suckering five gallon plants. They’d be easy to ship for mail order customers. On occasion we do offer larger sizes.
