This South American suckering fan palm comes from Argentina and Uruguay. As a young plant, it is quite slow growing. It takes six or seven years to produce a nice 5g plant. Overall mature height of this species is up to twenty feet. This species does produce multiple stems, but generally does not form overwhelming clumps. Leaves are small and blue colored, typically about two feet wide. The segments of the leaves are pointed and are very sharp. This is a drought tolerant species and can take temperatures well into the 100’s F. and is cold tolerant into the mid-teens.
