This variety of Dioon edule is from a locality of Jacala in the state of Hidalgo, Mexico. It is a small to medium sized species when mature. It has flat leaves with leaflets that are gray-green. An older specimen in the garden may only be four feet tall. It loves hot sun, even in the desert, and is cold hardy down to perhaps the upper teens F.
