This variety of fern is known as the “Moosehorn Fern” because of the wide, nearly solid frond it throws from the smooth shield. Compare this to the more “anter-like” fronds of the Platycerium bifurcatum. The fronds can be six feet wide at maturity. They are epiphytic and in the wild grow on tree trunks and branches. They require watering from overhead, like rain. One arcs the hose water so it enters the top of the plant. They want filtered light or as bit of sun and tolerate a freeze. We are offering plants mounted on a wooden plank. We have smaller plants for less (on sale) and larger plants as well. See third photo. Of not, we sell out of these quickly but cn usually get new ones in from a fern enthusiast and supplier to our nursery.
