Many people love the group of plants called “Heliconia“. These are lush tropical banana-like plants that produce outrageous flowers. One of the most cold hardy is H. schiediana. It tolerates a freeze. Even if frozen to the ground, it usually re-grows the next season. Flowers are upright, yellow and red. Plants get to a height of six to eight feet. Growth rate is fast. They like at least part day sun along the coast. Both 5g (limited) and 15g are on sale.
