TYPE OF EPIPHYTIC FERN
GROW IN A BASKET, MOUNT IT ON WOOD OR GROW IT IN A TREE
Staghorn Ferns and the group of Platycereium come from various tropical area of both the New World and Old World. Unlike most other ferns, this group grows epiphytically in trees – on branches and trunks. They do not harm the tree. This species has antler-like fronds or leaves and forms a shield near its base. The shield is green and fairly smooth. Very old plants become huge clusters or clumps in a tree. Plants can be grown in a basket, on a wooden plank or in a tree. They are not hard to grow. You just don’t let them go overly dry. We have various sizes at times and the one shown below is a well developed cluster. We are hoping to offer Moosehorn Ferns for this sale but are awaiting their arrival.
