FAST GROWING – EXTREMELY POPULAR AND SOUGHT AFTER CYCAD
This unique and larger cycad is native to Uganda. In fact, at one point it was called the “Uganda Giant Cycad”. This is because it has leaves that extend almost straight up toward the sky and can be twelve feet long or more. Leaflets are narrow and armed with small spines. The caudex is a light color and in the wild can be up to ten feet tall. Historically, as this species is similar to E. laurentianus, it was called also “Encephalartos laurentianus Lake George“, referring to its specific habitat. The nursery plants I’m showing today are 5 gallon size with caudexes of about 4 inches. If a given plant is more or less than 4 inch caudex size, sale price would be adjusted. We have other sizes as well, both larger and possibly smaller. The third row of photos shows garden plants and the last row shows other Nursery specimens. Note the appearance of these plants with their long leaves with narrow leaflets. Enthusiasts love this species because it’s a good growing cycad. Right on the coast I’d give it half day sun. It’s not quite as sun-tolerant as many of the South African species. Cold tolerance is into the low 20’s F.Note: for those on a budget, most likely we have smaller sizes or plants available – which cost less.
