GREEN LEAVES – QUICK GROWING Shown here below are 15 gallon sized plants of a larger green South African cycad that, in the ground, makes a magnificent specimen cycad. Encephalartos transvenosus gets enormous with trunks over 20 feet tall. It is native to the Modjadji Forest area of South Africa. Leaves are six to eight feet long and leaflets are shiny, dark green with some glaucous faint hairs on the leaflets. This is not a small cycad and needs plenty of room to grow and trunk out. It makes a big show. The plants on special below are in the 15 gallon size with caudexes of 4 to 5 inches – age 8 to 10 years. They can be easily shipped within the U.S. but would require a large box. See first four photos. This size is shown in the first six photos below. Following are photos of garden plants. The eight photo shows cycads with about 15 feet of trunk. Of course, this will take a century or two to achieve. This is a full sun species along the coast with a cold tolerance is 22 degrees F.
