The Teddy Bear Palm has become super popular because it grows well in Southern California, has a rusty colored, fuzzy crown shaft, has a silver, ringed trunk and doesn’t get too tall. For most enthusiasts, it’s among the “top ten” Madagascar palms. Mature height is about 25 feet. Right on the coast it does well with full sun. Cold hardiness is about 25 degrees F. Growth rate is medium. One can grow it in part day sun as well. The average enthusiast, once he sees a mature plant, just “has to have one”. Expect a mature height in California of about 25 feet or a bit more. Trunk diameter is usually about eight inches. The crown shaft is the most prominent trait – fuzzy, rusty red and quite touchable. The latter trait is why it’s called the “Teddy Bear Palm”. We’re putting five on Sale but only have a handful available.
