CEROXYLON QUINDIUENSE THE TALLEST PALM IN THE WORLD SOUTH AMERICAN PALM - COLUMBIA AND PERU

This tall, fairly cold hardy palm is native to mountainous regions in Columbia and Peru. It has been grown by many in colder areas including parts of the coastal San Francisco Bay Area. It has a gray to white columnar trunk with upright green leaves that have a silver color to the underside. Trunks show prominent rings and are covered with a waxy material that is used in foods in native localities. Mature specimens in the wild have been reported to be almost 200 feet tall. It likes humidity and moisture and can tolerate temperatures into the upper teens F. It prefers to start growing into filtered light and to work its way into full sun.
