This should prove to be one of the most interesting hybrid Encephalartos available on the market. It is an F2 hybrid. These were done from domestic plants in Southern California. The hybridizer took pollen from the E. horridus x woodii to pollinate a receptive female of E. natalensis x woodii. As most know, E. woodii is extinct in the wild and only male plants are known to exist. E. horridus x woodii (Encephalartos “horwood”) is one of the most sought after hybrids around. I’ve shown multiple photos of the plants on Special as well as close up photos of the leaves of both parents. Caudex size is about 1.5 inches.
