The leather fern is a durable and easy to grow fern that tolerates full sun along the coast. Most ferns want filtered light. It gets to a height of about two to three feet and is a similar width. The variety on sale today is one that many people seek out. It has a mature height under two feet in the sun. It can be planted as an individual plant or be used as a ground cover or as a short hedge. Cold hardiness is into the 20’s F. It wants adequate water but is somewhat drought tolerant. Leaves are branched and green.
| Mail order is possible. The last photo is c/o watersavingplants website but is the more common variety, not this super short form. |
