ENCEPHALARTOS LEBOMBOENSIS MEDIUM SIZED SOUTH AFRICAN CYCAD

Encephalartos lebomboensis is native to the Lebombo Mountains in South Africa. It is most closely related to Encephalartos senticosus. Leaves are green, typically three to five feet long and have thin, heavily spined leaflets. But, overall, this is not a large cycad species. In fact, it is relatively compact for an Encephalartos. In a lifetime most would see a mature tree that has perhaps six feet of trunk. There are many century old plants in the wild with fifteen to twenty feet of trunk. Overall, the crown width is about six feet. This species wants full sun along the coast and has a cold tolerance to the low 20’s F. It is not hard to grow. The plants shown are in 2 gallon pots with a caudex of 2 inches
